Note: (1) According to Arnaldo DeSouteiro, Stanley Turrentine opened for George Benson at this performance. Creed Taylor asked Dave Hewitt, the recording engineer, to secretly tape the performance - since the tenor sax man was contracted to Fantasy Records at the time. Master tapes of Turrentine's pre-Benson performance do, in fact, exist and are housed now at Sony. (2) * Selection "d" is the same performance as selection "c", except a different string arrangement than "c" is overdubbed on "d" to suggest "Also Sprach Zarathustra." (3) ** Selection "e" is titled "Gone" on CTI 6072 S1, CBS ZK 44167 [CD] and CTI OJ-47 [45] ("from CTI 7085"), but titled "Octane" on CTI 7085. (4) *** Selection "g" is titled "Octane" on CTI 6072 S1 and CBS ZK 44167 [CD], but titled "No Sooner Said Than Done" (as by Phil Upchurch) and overdubbed with unknown horns (prob. arr/cond by Dave Matthews) for CTI 7085. (5) OBI for CTI (Jap) KICJ-8204 [CD] and CTI (Jap) KICJ-8305 [CD] lists title as SUMMERTIME/2001. (6) Personnel detail courtesy of Arnaldo DeSouteiro.
